The Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School
In Indonesia, the mission of education of Tzu Chi began with the establishment of the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School in Cengkareng, West Jakarta in 2003. The Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School was originally built specifically for children living in the Tzu Chi Great Love Village. The school which was inaugurated on July 28, 2003 is equipped with various facilities that support teaching and learning activities. When it was first opened, the school only encompassed primary and lower-secondary level. As the number of students keep growing, the school had expanded its service to vocational education, higher secondary, as well as early childhood level. In the end, aside from the children living in the Tzu Chi Great Love Village, many children outside the Great Love Village also attend this school.
This school is named the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School, because great love (Cinta Kasih) in giving selflessly is a form of universal value. The Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School prioritizes character education, along with the development of knowledge and skills. In 2004, the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School has established a partnership (sister school) with Tzu Chi Primary School in Taiwan.
The characteristic of the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School is its emphasis on character education in addition to providing academic education. Positive behavior, polite speech, and compassionate nature are expected to grow in balance with the knowledge and academic skills of children undergoing education in this school. The guidance of teachers and volunteers slowly shapes the students to become individuals of virtuous character, caring for others and the environment. In academics and sports, the students of Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School have achieved various achievements as a result of their perseverance and wholehearted supports.
The work of Indonesian Tzu Chi in the world of education, especially with what has been done through the Cengkareng Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School, has received appreciation from the government of the Republic of Indonesia. In September 24, 2010, at the Plaza Building A of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Anugerah Peduli Pendidikan event was held with the theme of `Together Building the Country and Nation Character Through Education`. In this event, the Minister of Education and Culture of The Republic of Indonesia awarded the Indonesian Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation for its services and concern in the education development in the country.
The vision of the Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School is to realize a comprehensive humanistic education based on humanistic values and the emphasis on the balanced development between intellectuality, virtues, wisdom, togetherness and beauty by nurturing loving, respecful, grateful, caring, virtous, wise, excellent, skillful, as well as physically and mentally healthy students.
A person of humanistic culture is nurtured in an environment imbued with gratitude, mutual respect, and love. Virtuous character will bequeath the tolerant and caring young generation. The Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School will be a learning place for other learning institutions to boost education quality, improve students' basic learning skills, and grow the ability to compete and lead. The Cinta Kasih Tzu Chi School aim to provide holistic education, offer facilities and infrastructure to generate virtuous, wise, healthy, sociable, and humanistic graduates.
