2018 Year End Blessing: Dharma Boat Sails the Sea of Wisdom

The Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing (The Sutra of Infinite Meanings) that are the core spirit of Tzu Chi, become the content of 2018 Tzu Chi Indonesia Year End Blessing.

Tzu Chi Indonesia 2018 Year End Blessing contain a very deep and different meanings. The Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing (The Sutra of Infinite Meanings) which is the core of Tzu Chi spirit, become the theme of the year end blessing. 865 volunteers recited the Sutra and did the sign language (shou yu) beautifully in Jiang Jing Tang, Jing Si Hall, 4^th floor, Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK), North Jakarta, on Sunday, 13^th January 2019.

It’s not just singing or doing the sign language, Wu Liang Yi Jing or The Sutra of Infinite Meanings give a new Dharma understanding for each volunteers.  

“One thing that concerns Master Cheng Yen is that her disciples have not obtain a deep understanding of Dharma. Since last year, Tzu Chi Indonesia has prepared, practiced and learnt The Sutra of Infinite Meanings through book reviews, calligraphies, doing the sign languages (shou yu) and learning Sutras,” said Chia Wen Yu, senior volunteer for Tzu Chi Indonesia. “The peak event is today, volunteers performing the Dharma Assembly,” she continued.

Tzu Chi Indonesia Chairman, Liu Su Mei, gave a welcoming speech by thanking the volunteers and claimed to be deeply moved by the Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing performance.

Meanwhile, Tzu Chi Indonesia Chairman, Liu Su Mei, claimed to be deeply moved by The Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing. She also take part as a volunteers in the group of The Dharma Ocean (Fa Hai).

“So Shixiong-shijie, Tzu Chi is ours, we have a very wise teacher at Jing Si Abode. We had to have a solid determination and belief in following Master Cheng Yen as her disciples. In the 25^th  years of Tzu Chi Indonesia, today we learn more about The Sutra of Infinite Meanings, truly there’s Dharma in Indonesia now,” Liu Su Mei told us with full of joy.

Preparing Wholeheartedly

The Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing had been carefully prepared. The event’s content team, as example, wake up on 07.00 WIB every morning and work until 10.00 WIB, they always prepared the content materials before handing them out to be leant together. “There must be a way for the content materials to be learnt by all the volunteers,” said Livia Tjin who is part of the content writer team. It is the same as other teams, all of them are working hard in the spirit of learning and sharing Dharma.

“This Dharma Assembling can be done because all of the volunteers had work hard in learning The Sutra of Infinite Meanings. I am really gan en to Shang Ren (Master), who give us a self-learning method in the way of Bodhisatwa in reference to The Sutra of Infinite Meanings.” Livia added.

865 volunteers recite Sutra and doing sign languages beautifully on Sunday, 13^th January 2018, at Jing Si Hall 4^th Floor, PIK, North Jakarta.

The other member of the content team, Hendry Chayadi, also express his gratitude to all the volunteers. “I believe Master Cheng Yen have been waiting for us to have this day (deepen Dharma and the Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing), it’s been a long time,” he said. “So I believe, looking at Indonesian disciples today, (Master Cheng Yen) can feel at ease,” Hendry continued.

“Hopefully this is not the end, this is the beginning of what Master Cheng Yen expect, that every Tzu Chi human being, in addition to charity work, must also learn about the teaching. Therefore, developing blessing and wisdom simultaneously,” Hendy added.

Always Contributing Selflessly

This annual routine is themed Gratitude, Respect, and Love. Harmony without Dispute, Creating Blessing Together also reminded volunteers to always contributing selflessly. This is shown by the sharing of some volunteers in this event. For instance, the Handaya and Komariah couple (deaf and mute) who are continuing to contribute amid their obstacle in hearing and speaking. There are also Sarpen and Sri, who were once receiving home rebuild assistance at Pademangan, North Jakarta, have now become committee volunteers.

Tzu Chi Indonesia Chairman, Liu Su Mei, gave a welcoming speech by thanking the volunteers and claimed to be deeply moved by the Dharma Assembly of Wu Liang Yi Jing performance.

The enthusiasm shown by all of the volunteers are appreciated by participants, including Tzu Chi Indonesia Vice Chairman Sugianto Kusuma and Franky O. Widjaja. In addition to feeling happy with the gathering of Tzu Chi volunteers, they also encourage volunteers to be more motivated in following the volunteers who had just share their story on the stage.

“We have watched The Sutra of Infinite Meanings and the sharing of Shixiong and Shijie on the stage, for me, they are very meaningful and inspiring. I am also very touched by Shixiong-shijie who are less fortunate, but still trying to do good deeds for others. This is the spirit we need to implement. Therefore, all of us, especially the people who are healthy, starting today we have to increase our spirit in Tzu Chi,” said Sugianto Kusuma.

Not only Sugianto Kusuma, Franky O. Widjaja, also give his appreciation to Tzu Chi volunteers. “As stated before by Shixiong Sugianto, what have been shown and told in the sharing were very astounding, very worthy to be our role models. We have to always grasp and propagating virtue,” he said.

Master Cheng Yen Message

Tzu Chi Indonesia Vice Chairman, Sugianto Kusuma and Franky O. Widjaja urge the volunteers to always grasp the chance to do the charity.

In the end of the event, each of the volunteers receive a blessing and wisdom angpau from Master Cheng Yen.

In the end of events, in a video footage, Master Cheng Yen remind all her disciples if they want to live peacefully and healthily, then they have to maintain a good living habits, and one of them is to become vegetarian. If everyone can become vegetarian, every meal in everyday, the air will be cleaner and pollution decreased. Master also teach us about eating in a simple way.

“In practice of simplicity, we can have a very beautiful life. This is what we called complacency. With complacency, the heart will always be feel with joy.” Master Cheng Yen also remind everyone to maintain good thought. If we can avoid conflicts with others, then there will be a harmonious relationship. If the community can be peaceful, then life can be harmonious, safe and sound.
