Tzu Chi volunteers from the Central He Qi Community are busy making a program called “Tzu Chi Peduli, Tzu Chi Berbagi” movement to help Small Merchants become a success. On the first day, Monday, August 23, 2021, Kimhwa (60) got assistance from this program. He got an order for a hundred servings of lunch.
"I'm very happy that I got an order from Tzu Chi, because during the pandemic there were no buyers. With this help, I thank you, for small traders like us, there will be income,” said Kimhwa.
Kimhwa (left) is grateful to receive orders from Tzu Chi, especially when the results of his cooking are distributed to residents who are affected by the pandemic economically.
Assisted by his nephew, he cooks a lunch menu with a side dish of balado eggs, tempeh orek, capcay, and crackers. On a daily basis, Kimhwa sells pastels and risol which are sold in several shopping centers and churches in Jakarta. He also sometimes gets catering orders. Like other business actors who have been hit by the pandemic, Kimhwa is no exception.
Meanwhile, the volunteers arrived at his house at 10:00 a.m. WIB, immediately helped Kimhwa pack lunches which will be distributed to underprivileged residents, residents who are self-isolating, janitors, security officers, PPSU, and Mrs. PKK in Glodok Village, Taman Sari. West Jakarta.

Under the hot sun, the volunteers accompanied by Isabella, Head of Welfare of Glodok Village, went around distributing the food. Starting from some of Kimhwa's neighbors who live in poverty, such as vegetable transporters, bajaj drivers, to those who are in self-isolation.
“We volunteers are touched to see the happiness of the residents who receive it. I think they were also surprised that someone wanted to come down and help them door to door,” said Wylen, a Tzu Chi volunteer.
Isabella, Head of Welfare, Glodok Village, hopes that this program can continue because it is very beneficial for small merchants and residents who receive the food.
“We are very happy with activities like this. I give a thumbs up because Tzu Chi is thinking about economic empowerment, which at times like these are indeed difficult,” he said.
Tzu Chi volunteers helped an elderly man put on a mask and gave him two lunch boxes.
In addition to helping the economy of small merchants, this activity in the framework of the Seventh Blessing Month also helps underprivileged people, in particular, get healthy vegetarian meals. No less important, from this activity, volunteers also socialize a healthy lifestyle, particularly reducing animal foods and consuming more vegetables and fruit.
"Every Tuesday and Friday, volunteers will cooperate with the village administration, will gather ASN and several PPSUs to socialize a healthy vegetarian lifestyle, the importance of washing hands frequently, maintaining a healthy diet, it is hoped that these ASN can socialize again to other residents," Wylen added.
Dian Rahadian, Lurah Glodok, and Isabella, Head of Welfare, Glodok Village, supported the noble activities of Tzu Chi volunteers for their residents.
For Glodok Village, the Tzu Chi Peduli, Tzu Chi Sharing, Movement to Help Small Merchants program will last for two weeks, from Monday to Friday. Meanwhile, South Duri Village will start two weeks later, with a total of 10 days.
Dian Rahadian, Lurah Glodok, thanked and supported this Tzu Chi program, which really helped its citizens.
"With this assistance, Alhamdulillah, we can boost or lift small entrepreneurs and merchants to move their economy again," said Lurah Glodok.
