Covid-19 has become a global pandemic. In Indonesia, the number of patients continues to increase. As of 22 March 2020, there are 514 confirmed cases, with 48 deaths, and 29 recovered.
The government has implemented several measures to prevent further spread, one of which was socialising the necessary information and issuing the necessary law. However, it is inevitable, with the rise of patient numbers in Indonesia that these referral hospitals are highly overwhelmed by the case.
Medical teams have to work extra hours for 24/7 to monitor each patient’s condition. The increased confirmed cases which spike high, make them soon to run out of both medical equipments and isolation rooms.
Indonesian Health Minister, Dr Terawan Agus Putranto received 400 pieces of coverall safety (isolation suits) at the Health Ministry office on 18 March 2020.
So, what do we do?
As an active member of the society, it is wise for us to realise and take a wise step by following the government's advice in fighting Covid-19 together. Such as following President Joko Widodo’s advice to work, study, and pray at home. By having one person doing this, we can stop the spread of Covid-19. Therefore, if we’re in this together, we are hoping to get a maximum result. By maintaining ourselves to stay healthy, we can also ease the work of the medical teams.
Meanwhile, aside from doing things to yourself, Tzu Chi Indonesia continues to support the medical teams. From 17 to 22 March 2020, Tzu Chi Indonesia distributed 2845 isolation suits and 279.000 masks for Covid-19 referral hospital. There were 25200 Rapid Test Kit given to Indonesian Health Ministry that was received directly by Indonesian Health Minister, Dr Terawan Agus Putranto. These medical aid were given to Covid-19 referral hospitals and others.
The number of medical assistance will continue to be added along with our continuous efforts to combat the Covid-19 outbreak.
This was made possible by the sincerity of our donaturs amid the increased cost and high demand for medical equipment, especially demands for isolation suits and masks for these frontliners fighting the outbreak.
Assistance of medical equipment is continuing to be provided by Tzu Chi for hospitals with Covid-19 patients in Jakarta.
This was then also helped by businessmen and companies who work hard together with Tzu Chi Indonesia to raise Rp 500 billions in funds. The donations raised by Tzu Chi were given in form of 1000000 rapid test kit, 20000 coverall saftey, 4 ventilators, and 1000000 masks. The distribution of these equipment are done under the coordination between Indonesian Health Ministry and BNPB (Disaster Relief Mitigation Agency).
Such a compassionate act together with our awareness, hopefully we can fight this COvid-19 outbreak as soon as possible. May the good karma from all the people bear fruit in time, restoring the Earth and the things within.
The Tzu Chi Indonesia Foundation provided 25,200 rapid test kits to the Indonesian Ministry of Health which was received directly by Indonesian Minister of Health Terawan Agus Putranto, March 22, 2020
