Life Wisdom: Saving Mother Earth by Giving of Our Power of Love

As we look around the world, what we see is truly tragic and heartrending. Every day, I watch news around the world, a lot of footage I’ve seen is all about the imbalance of nature. There have been disasters occurring all over the world, causing great devastation everywhere.

Before, I often said that our Earth had been seriously out of balance and reached the point that she could no longer withstand the harm. Our Mother Earth is already greatly damaged. Our Earth is harmed, and humans have been the culprit of this. For a very long time, humans have been so greedy that they over-excavated and exploited our Earth, causing much harm and leaving no time for our Earth to recuperate and recover.

Now, Mother Earth no longer can bear all the damages and hurts. Its atmosphere has been badly polluted. Who can help her or restore her? We humans are still deluded and lost, we are still excavating, continue to do harm and destroy the Earth, so she has no time to recover; still, humans continuously do destructive things. Like burning our skin constantly, the atmosphere between the land and the sky keeps on burning, which is like the lung of the Earth being inflamed.

The burning of the land is like the same as humans’ lung becoming overly heated, inflamed, and getting hardened. The Earth’s lung is starting to become stiffened. Such are the damages humans have done to the Earth, yet the Earth still struggles to keep humans under its protection. It puts up with the damages done by humans, and tolerates this angrily.

It is angry to an extreme, yet, it also cannot do anything. Damages were all done by humans. The Earth is hurt badly and its illness is very severe; the only remedy is for humans to awaken in time. A big disaster is here, so, let us awaken, raise our heads and genuinely repent to the sky; we repent for our ignorance and our greed. This “we” includes everyone, including each of us here. When every one of us comes together, there are countless individuals; now is the time for us to raise our heads to repent together by following a vegetarian diet.

The Earth is in an emergency, can humans conquer nature? Is that possible? We are too arrogant. It is like comparing an ant to Mount Sumeru. Humans harbor a heart of arrogance, and overestimate their own abilities. Take earthquakes for example, no one can predict when an earthquake will happen. Humans cannot foresee what will happen to their life in the next few seconds.

The Buddha teaches us about impermanence, which takes place in a fleeting instant. We have been lucky, all of us who are sitting here have been alive for several decades already. It’s fortunate that we have lived for several decades, so, let us be grateful to the past. We now know life is impermanent. Technology shows us this. The Buddha gave us this warning.

Now, technology allows us to know when an earthquake occurs by sending out warning via cellphone. But, the time between the warning and the quake is too short, so there is little time to prepare. So, life is still impermanent. How do we bring peace and safety to the world as well as have favorable weather? This requires human effort.

Among people, we need to stay vigilant and warn one another of the danger. We speak kind words to people, and we encourage people to do good. When interacting with people, let us quell our desires, inspire one another to bring forth our innate nature and our power of love. Let us display our innate wisdom and give of our power of love.

Since we’ve realized our innate nature, we need to give of our power of love. When a disaster occurs, due to the ripening of living beings’ karma, we need to rectify our wrong ways. The karma we’ve created in the past is causing disasters to happen now. We already know this. Yet, we need to self-reflect, “We’ve done wrong. We repent. We need to change our wrongs.”

Since we’ve already created the karma, when disasters happen, those who are safe and well need to quickly lend a helping hand to help those in need. If the disaster is far away, we need to go there, get close to the disaster affectees, and help them. This is what we need to guide people to do.

A smart person places great emphasis on gain and loss, whereas a wise person is courageous to let go.
